Love and Theft Keep “Eyes” on the Prize
Love and Theft have a seven-year itch, musically speaking. It’s been that long since they wrote the songs on their debut album. And, boy, times have changed.
First of all, Eric Gunderson and Stephen Barker Liles are a duo now, following the departure of Brian Bandas. They’re also on RCA Nashville„ they’ve updated their sound since scoring a Top 10 hit with “Runaway” in 2009.
“It’s a big difference from our first album,” “On our first album, some of the songs had a hundred different sounds going on, which is not bad, but that’s not the way our influences made records, and that’s not exactly where our heart is. So we’re excited about this.
Brantley Gilbert Shocked by His Gift from Eric Church
Brantley Gilbert spent the spring as a special guest on Eric Church’s Blood, Sweat and Beers Tour. When the first leg of the tour wrapped, the pair traded gifts to mark the occasion — and Eric presented Brantley with a couple of very special mementos.
“For the end of the tour present, he totally one-upped me on the gift,” Brantley said. “I got him a bottle of whiskey from Colorado and a biker ring. So he invited me on his bus and his wife brings out this huge picture of the show in Nashville that we sold out, and it had a plaque that said ‘Presented to Brantley Gilbert by Eric Church.’”
That wasn’t all, though. “Then he brings out this case and it looks like a violin case, and it’s a shotgun from 1968,” Brantley continued. “It is unbelievable; it’s probably the only gun I have that I’ll never shoot. I guess he knew I was a gun guy. I don’t know how he figured that out. But he totally outdid me on the gift giving part.”
Exchanging gifts and playing sold out arenas wasn’t all the pair did while on tour. They also sat down and wrote a few songs together. Who will record them remains to be seen. “We’re gonna have to battle over whether they’ll be for him or for me,” Brantley said
2012 CMA Awards to Be Hosted by Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood
Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will return for the fifth year to serve as hosts for the 46th Annual CMA Awards! The two superstars, who began serving as co-hosts in 2008, have already begun preparations for the upcoming show.
Considering the close friendship between the pair, it’s no surprise that they accepted the invitation to host country music’s biggest night again. “I love working with Carrie,” Brad said before hosting the 2011 ceremony. “She’s a class act and a complete balance to my non-class act. I’ll try my best to not mess it up.”
