Fido Calling

An Orem, Utah, man panicked when he received a call from his house while he was at work but he soon discovered his dog had placed the call. Bruce Gardner said he had only been at work for about 10 minutes Wednesday morning when he received a call from his home phone. “I knew nobody was home, so I answered it,” he said. “I said, ‘Hello,’ and all I could hear in the background was all this rustling noise.” His first thought was, “I’m being robbed.” However, Gardner and police arrived at the house to find there were no burglars. Several hours later, Gardner called police back with an explanation for what had happened. It seems his dog had gotten a hold of his cordless home phone and in the midst of chewing on it hit the “redial” button, calling Gardner’s cellphone. Gardner found the phone lying face down in the garden after he called his home number from his cell. After noticing tooth marks on the back of the phone, he put the pieces together.
