Two wounded combat veterans are reuniting in retirement. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer says military officials are agreeing to let former Marine Corporal Megan Leavey adopt Sergeant Rex, a black and brown German Shepherd. Leavey was Rex’s handler. They were wounded in Iraq together in 2006 while trying to disarm an explosive device. Rex is 10-years-old and can’t continue his military service. But Schumer says bureaucracy stood in the way of the adoption. Rex will now join Leavey in Rockland County, just north of New York City.
