Two wounded com­bat vet­er­ans are reunit­ing in retire­ment. U.S. Sen­a­tor Charles Schumer says mil­i­tary offi­cials are agree­ing to let for­mer Marine Cor­po­ral Megan Leavey adopt Sergeant Rex, a black and brown Ger­man Shep­herd. Leavey was Rex’s han­dler. They were wounded in Iraq together in 2006 while try­ing to dis­arm an explo­sive device. Rex is 10-years-old and can’t con­tinue his mil­i­tary ser­vice. But Schumer says bureau­cracy stood in the way of the adop­tion. Rex will now join Leavey in Rock­land County, just north of New York City.
